FAITH DIETS- A Bible Believer's Diet

FOOD AND THE BIBLE

Food is essential for our physical life but our life is not just physical and we are not just physical beings. Our essence for survival does not include food alone. We require something much more than food.

We should be thankful to the Lord for providing us with all kinds of foods. Food is to be enjoyed but let us not get lost in enjoyment to the extent that we commit Sin. Overeating and being a glutton is a great Sin. According to the bible, our body is not ours to make it barrel of fat. So, we should learn when to put down the knife and fork. Life as described by the bible depends upon the perfect balance of spiritual and physical act.

Life of a person depends upon the best of his spiritual practices, which is only possible through the teachings of the Lord himself. Even though, the bible has not established any direct relationship between the food we take and salvation, we find important guidance from the bible regarding the types of food which has been mentioned in it and the Lord himself would eat if he would have been alive.

Regarding "What may be eaten and what may not be", the old testament of the bible has "laid down very strict laws of diet. The general rule is the classification of Food as "Clean" and "Unclean". Those foods which can be consumed by man are stated as clean whereas those which have been stated unclean are considered inedible.

Food was obtained from many other sources besides animals, mainly cereal crops, fruit and vegetables. Bread was the basic item of everyone's diet. In our prayers, the word, bread, stands for food in general. And Jesus called himself "the Bread of Life" meaning "the Food of Life". Foods mentioned in the bible still serves

When the world was created, the Earth was an abundance of fruits and vegetables. When Adam and Eve were created, the creator must have intended them to be vegetarians. Genesis 1:29 "And God said, 'Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat (food)'." Meat and animal sacrifices were forbidden. However, God allowed animal sacrifices to be made and subsequently allowed meat to be eaten when Adam and Eve had eaten the forbidden fruit of the tree of the knowledge of the good and the evil.
