FAITH DIETS- A Bible Believer's Diet
FOOD LAWS
According to bible, what are the foods that we are supposed to eat? And are there foods that a Christian should avoid?
Prior to the Great Flood, Genesis 7:2 provided a distinction between clean and unclean animals. The distinction was later enacted by Moses into law. It is important for us to acknowledge that as long as we bless and respect the food we eat, the food is cleansed. However; it is for us to understand that God made us, he made our bodies, and he knows what foods make them run at optimal levels. That is why he gave us an instruction manual to follow - the Bible.
In the Book of Leviticus, very strict laws about diet are laid down, and we can learn about the restrictions placed upon foods that could be eaten. According to the old-testament, those animals which chew their cud and have divided hoofs could be eaten. However there are some exceptions, ruling out pigs. Fish with fins and scales, were stated edible. Aviators which are scavengers were not to be eaten. It was also enacted that blood must be drained from the carcass before the meat was cooked and it was forbidden to cook meat and milk dishes together or eaten together.
The law might have been enacted being based partly on their wholesomeness as food; and partly might be because of their religious considerations. The reason for the laws enacted upon diet was never explained. This is important for us to understand that this might have been God's one way of protecting the health of the people. It might have been one of his ways of avoiding cruelty to animals.
It is important to note that Jesus abolished the distinction between clean and unclean foods in Mark 7:18-19: "Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him; Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats."
Thus we read that Jesus "made all meats clean." However, to further prove this point, we read in Acts 10:11-15: "And (Peter) saw heaven opened and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth. Wherein all manner of four-footed beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air. And there came a voice to him, 'Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.' But Peter said, 'Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.' And the voice spake unto him again the second time, 'What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common'."
